Love isn't love til you give it away....

On Sundays, when the minister at my Fellowship passes the collection plate, he always says "love isn't love 'til you give it away".   Indeed it isn't.  I have been overwhelmed by love lately.  Now I'd like to give it away.  Here's the story......

Last week I was looking at my business Facebook page and feeling not so good about only having 86 likes.  Not for lack of trying, but I'm just not getting out there.  Now, this last month or so I've been putting a lot of time and effort into my web presence.  I've been posting on Facebook, posting regularly on my photo blog Arc of a Rainbow (which, unfortunately, has taken some of my time away from here), pinning like crazy,  and (finally!) designing a website.  And for all that effort, to have only 86 people see my stuff on FB was just sad.

So I thought, wouldn't it be nice if I could really increase my web presence by, say, my birthday.  (Which happens to be at the end of this month.)  I mean, if I could give birth to my website *and* have maybe 100 likes by the end of the month, I would consider that a happy birthday.  So I put it out there.  I asked my friends to show me some birthday love.  I posted that I'd like to get to 100 likes by the end of the month, and I'd really appreciate everyone helping me to get there.  And you know what happened?  (If you've already like my page, you do!)  I got 34 new likes.  In 2 days.

All this got me to thinking about love, and what my minister says about giving it away.  {Note here...the quote is originally from Oscar Hammerstein's lyrics to Sixteen Going on Seventeen, from The Sound of Music.  Just thought you should know. ;D }  Anyway, I thought, wouldn't it be nice if I could share this love?  And then it occurred to me that I can.

So, here's my Birthday Love Facebook Challenge*.  For every new like I get on my Facebook page this month (March 2013), I will donate $1 to a charity.  I haven't yet decided which charity.  Maybe I'll let my Facebook "likers" vote on it.  But, $1 for every new like.  That's $35 as of today, going to a worthy cause.

Yeah.  Birthday love....givin' it away.

*Caveat:  Offer is only good until midnight, March 31st, 2013.  Total amount to be donated cannot exceed $150.  Sorry folks, just can't afford more than that right now.
